How do I use the Route Progress View?

Getting to the Route Progress View
Another function available in the Bus Location Map is a route progress view of a bus's progress on its current route. To see the route progress view, right-click on a bus icon on the map and select "Route Progress" as shown to the right.

Selecting the route progress view.

This will open up the street view shown below: Route Progress view.

Using the Route Progress View.
The route progress view shows the selected bus and all of the other buses currently running on the same route variation (in the example above eastbound Madison & Austin Terminal to Washington & Wabash), with the direction of travel shown by the arrow above the roadway. The route's stops are displayed as lines above the roadway. As the cursor is moved over a line, the corresponding stop location is displayed above the roadway.

To set an arrival alarm for a particular stop, click on the roadway before that stop. This places a "clock" icon on the roadway at that point. When a vehicle reaches that location, a pop-up alert is issued to inform you that the bus has arrived. It is important to note that some browsers block pop-up windows so you will want to configure your broswer to let our site show pop-ups. If you are going to use the alarm function to let you know when to go catch a bus, make sure you allow enough time for your travel to the bus stop. For example, if it takes you ten minutes to reach your bus stop, select a stop on the route which is at least ten minutes ahead of your location. This will allow you time to arrive at the bus stop before the bus arrives. The Estimated Arrival Times window will provide you the best guidelines for the time it will take a bus to arrive at your selected stop. Click here to learn more about the Estimated Arrival Times window.

When a route has buses going to different destinations, a box will appear that allows you to view all of the buses on each route variation.
